Ive been asking lots of questions about lenses lately, and i have yet another one
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-17-40mm-Ultra-Angle-Cameras/dp/B00009R6WO/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header
After reading tons of reviews and opinions, i am torn, as to if this would be an effective walk around lens, as one review said, i think this could very well come in handy for landscapes, but for walking around, and capturing something i see, i think overall its a good lens, but i would like the opinion of some others on it
Thankyou
Edit- forgot the link, sorry just added haha

Probably this is a great specialist lens. I,m often happy to walk around with just a prime, but if i want a bit of flexibility I would think the range on this is a bit limited. On a crop the kit lens range is good so this prob points at the 24-70 for full frame

I get what you mean about range. It could pose as a problem at times, but i dont think it would bother me too much

So what would your opinion on spending the money on it be? Because this is a bigger buy than i would usually get, haha

If you have a kit lens 18-55 how much do you use it?

My kit lens, it is no longer with us, i went to go use it one day and it would focus, than i tried using manual focus and it started to grind. Im pretty sure it was the poor choice of letting my brother use my camera, but, in the end it was my fault
Thats why i'm looking for another walk around lens, But would you think its best to get another 18-55 or go higher? Like with this lens

To be honest you do not sound like you are anywhere close to needing a L quality lens. I would recommend something like a tamron 28-75 f2.8. good lens. nice versatile focal length. you get f2.8 throughout and costs half what the L lens does.

I would spend under $100 and get the kit lens to see if you like that range first :)

Or if you want a wider angle than Joe's recommendation, the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.

Yep for me was replacing my 18-55 kit lens with the next step up. And that was the Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Which gives you more usability in lower light situations and Image IQ takes a jump up and is the next step up from the kit lenses. Otherwise not wanting to spend the $460 new or $350 used then the basic kit lenses suffice and be all you need?
.

I use the 17-40 on my 7d and 50d and love it. Its very sharp even wide open. Its geat for a walk around lens but I think you should consider the 24-105L f4 also. Its a little more and I think the trade in wide angle for telephoto is worth it.
