Panoramic - how did they do it?

Anyone have any ideas which? Photoshop doesn't seem to get the job done.

Anyone know how Michael Nichols stitched the photos together for his redwood pano? Sequoias: Snow Tree - Portrait - Pictures, More From National Geographic Magazine

I'd like to do something similar along a 10 block stretch of a street. Parallaxing is the real challenge.

It has been a few years since that was shot. As I recall, he used a camera that was moved up,up,and up, in another tree, thus keeping the center of the field of view relatively "squared-up", so to speak, along the giant tree's 247 foot height.

Autostitch might handle this type of thing.

May have used a wide format camera

Not familiar with this image's history, but this method is the only one that makes sense.
