The first one has a lack of detail and sharpness. What lens, camera are you shooting? The rock in the middle is really dark, the edges all around arent defined. I see you shot f/5.6 with a shutter of 1/2000. I would of upped that ISO to f/11 or so and still get a totally usable 1/500 shutter. Would increase the depth of field

You seem to have an issue with composition as well. If I am not mistaken, what you are perceiving as the subject or main focus is pretty much always in the middle of the frame. Play with different angles and get your subject off center.

Stirred up some memories... Here is a link to a photo I took years ago at Peggy's Cove... It is VERY small and the quality of the scan stinks... as I didn't have a digital back then and I can't find the original. Sorry, no huricane that day...

Umm I assume you meant aperture, not ISO... Otherwise I am very confused...
