I can get a used one "nearly almost mint" condition with a 220 film back. All it needs is a lens.

Just what sort of options are there for finding lenses?

The Pentax system didn't sell as strongly as the Bronica and Mamiya competition, so the pool of used gear is shallower. Check the availability of 120 inserts since there's very little choice in 220 film currently. Keep in mind the inserts aren't mid-roll removable like a film back. Fixed viewfinder. Nice compact system.

I miss my mamiya 645 1000S.
it was the "smaller" medium format, being 6x4.5 instead of the larger 6x6 or 6x7 of other medium format cameras of the era. still, there was something satisfying about loading 120 roll film. I had the 80mm f4 macro and 150mm f4 lenses for mine.
lenses for the mamiya werent very expensive, and i think for the pentax 645 as well so you could probably find some good deals on ebay. i expect there arent as many buyers as there used to be. good luck with the search and happy shooting!

Its just that everything IM finding is perhaps 20% less then what current factory new lenses are costing. Mamiya seems interesting though.

The pentax system is similar to the older mamiyas.

They are pritty solid workers. But think of it this way.
How many lenses do you really have to have?

I have and use a Mamiya 645 pro tl and an RB67. With respect to lenses for your Pentax, it depends on what you want to photograph. For landscapes, I'd consider a 35 or 45 mm, for portraits, I'd consider an 80 or 150 mm.

Nice rig - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. The tip about the 120 back is a good one, 220 film is virtually non-existent.

The 220 insert can be converted to use 120 film. See here...
