I just got my D50 and im looking for a site to display my photos. I use photobucket but they shrink photos. any good photo hosters?

Photobucket only shrinks photo if you try to upload large files. It's quite easy to resize and compress your images to 'web viewing quality'.

Why not do it yourself?
:)
Setting up a website doesn't cost more than having your photos hosted.

Indeed, I agree with Flickr.

And RE: the 'own site' comment - some people don't want to pay the bandwidth bills associated with running their own stuff hehe. My site already receives a ton of traffic, with full size photos it'd be insane hehe.

I pay about $6/month for 50GIG of monthly bandwidth.

Most photosharing forums put a limit of 200K on photos so I'll use that as a rule of thumb ..if i do the math that would come out to 250,000 views per month. I doubt even the best photo sites get even close to that (not talking about communities). Increase the size, you'll still be looking at 100,000 views per month. Ansel Adams maybe.

If I got that kind of traffic on a personal site I would start putting up advertising.

Well, I have a ton of traffic available to me too - my main reason for not hosting them myself is probably because I jump hosts every now and then and don't want to move gigs of photos hehe.
Not to mention I love Flickr's uploader more then Gallery2s. <Insert more Flickr Fan-boy cheering here>

I just like the flexibility that comes with having your own site...plus there's the learning experience..since putting up my site I increased my knowledge of Flash tenfold and I'm now familiar with all the main php CMS applications: Gallery, Coppermine, PhpNuke, PostNuke, Mambo, Pixelpost, Folderblog, Wordpress,phpBB...etc...

so i'm having fun too!
:)

I have gone through a myriad of changes on my websites in the construction phase. PHP-Nuke, Dragonfly CMS, Coppermine, Gallery2.....the list goes on

I have finally settled down on Wordpress with Flash galleries.

It works for me, YMMV.

Cheers,
