Hi there

I am looking for a program, preferable OSX but windows if necessary, which allows Raw photo images to be stored on an external storage with a smaller jpeg image to be stored on the computers harddisk. It has to be capable of tagging and sorting as usual for these styles of programs.

The situation is that I have a MacBook Air with an SSD. THis has limited storage and quickly fills up with the Raw image files. Ideally the software would move the Raw image data to External Storage, leaving a much smaller JPG behind. The JPG can then be used when the External storage is unattached for Browsing etc, ie at a clients office, with the RAW capable of being used for the processing later on.

There is a lot of free software online that can do that.
In fact, the software that came with your camera can likely do all you need done too.

Sounds like you just need to develop a workflow when you work with your files. That said you might also look into DAM tools like Image Ingester. A DAM manager might be able to point you in the right direction. Try posting your question to Henrik on anotherdamblog.com and stop laughing at all my DAM references.
