On the rare chance that the northern lights were going to reach northern Indiana I set up my camera to capture them.
In the past I have found that my f5.6 lens, with a 30 second exposure at 3200 ISO will capture the aurora colors in what appears as a simple grey cloud to the naked eye. Unfortunately it was not to be.
However a bit of serendipity did occur. I found that sky glow, the bane of astronomy, allowed me to capture the clouds quite well. This is just sky glow, no moon light illumination, the light pollutions from cities 10 to 20 miles distant.
So my question is, has anyone used the sky glow light pollution to shoot landscapes?
