Photoshop help

[Happy Hour]

I have recently discovered a different way to make borders on PS. The problem I'm having is when I select my border ,then for example filter, sketch,Torn edges. It cuts the top left and side out and only shows the effect on the right bottom and side. it does this with every effect I try. Any insight on what is going on? I watched a few videos on doing this and followed them exactly but my pics always do as above!!

Would have to see an example to get a true idea of what you are talking about. But from what you are saying I would suggest increasing the canvas size. Don't know if it will work, just a thought.

Thanks for the reply, but it seemed to just fix it's self. I played with it for 2 days and finally when someone from another forum asked to see a example i went into PS and it worked fine!
