So far in my kit I have the Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX, Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 VR, and incoming i have the Nikon 105mm f2.8 Micro. But now im looking for a wide angle lens for my D7100. I have narrowed it down to the Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5, Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, and the Tokina 12-28mm f/4. Im leaning towards the tokina 12-28 because it seems to have a more useful range but i also like the 11-16mm because its faster, I'd like everyones opinion on which lens would be better in my current lineup of lens. This lens will be used for landscapes and cityscapes and when i go traveling. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't think you need the extra stops for what you intend to shoot. How often do you shoot off a tripod?

not very often, maybe once or twice on a trip

I've seen KR's review and photo samples of the Tokina 12-28mm...it looks like a very good lens, and the price is right, and it is the ONLY DX ultra-wide that goes up to 28mm on the top end. Additionally, it also covers full-frame from 18mm up to 28mm. 11-16mm is a NARROW range, and it's an ultra-wide to wide zoom... 12 to 28mm is an ultra-wide to normal-lens length on DX. The "normal lens" is supposed to be about as long as the frame diagonal...so, 28mm versus 29mm...pretty much a "normal lens" on DX. (43mm is the diagonal of FX). I have owned two AT-X series Tokinas, their 28-70mm f/2.6~something,and the ATX 28-20 f/2.8...built like tanks. I can definitely see the plusses the Tokina 12-28mm f/4 AT-X series lens offers. Totally. The HUGE upside is the DX and FX coverage.

Tokina 12-28mm Review

ya ive seen the reviews on it and it looked promising thats why i was leaning towards that one....

You can pick up a Tokina 12-24 f/4 for under $300 (at places like KEH)... IMHO, its a steal for that price (caveat: $300 is for the version that only works on the D7x00,D90,D80,D70).

There are VERY few times you need f/2.8 on a UWA.. and i find the extra range over the 11-16mm extremely useful.

Just my .002c (and a owner of the Tokina 12-24 f/4).
