pictures coming out too light indoors, what's up?

I have a Minolta Dynax 303si 35mm camera. My shots indoors when using my flash seem washed out, too light. The outdoor photos come out just fine. Am I using the wrong mode or too much extra light with the flash?

Hard to know without seeing them, but a common issue with flash is to be too close to the subject, especially when using a wide angle lens. Many flashes have a minimum distance because they can be turn down only so far.
