hey everyone
I’m planning my first trip to Acadia in Maine.
Was hoping to get tips and feedback.
This will be my first trip, never gone on a full adventure...

I am planning a trip to be there for a week:
Wondering on what to bring
Food, gear to camp, the most essential things as a must have...
any info will be greatly appreciated...

Also looking for a place to shoot the Milky Way as well

I went there for my first time in December and it was amazing. I might be going back next month for a few days.

I stayed in an Airbnb in bar harbor for $50/night. Prices are higher in the summer.

Only a small section of the loop road was open; so I didn’t see much of the park. But the coastal area near thunder hole and boulder beach is amazing for landscapes and astrophotography. The whole area is pretty dark, especially if you shoot east towards the ocean. I’ve heard that Cadillac mountain is great for the night sky as well; though I never made it up there.

Lots of good restaurants in bar harbor, especially if you like seafood. Great brewery as well in town; worth checking out if you like beer (or root beer, old soakers is amazing).

Hubby and I will be there June-Oct in our RV. Have spot at campground. If anyone comes during that time, let's hook up!

We were there in 2008 but didn't have my Nikon then or my drone!
It is beautiful!

It's a shame that drones aren't allowed in national parks. I understand it, but man it would make for some incredible footage.

Agreed, it would be nuts if everyone had their drones out!

They need to allow for permits for it or something though rather than an all out ban like it is currently.

Lots of great info here: Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor Maine Vacation Guide

I enjoyed the sunrise and sunset from Cadillac Mtn, the "hike" to Bar Island during low tide, the Shore Path at dawn had some beautiful spots and very easy access, Jordan Pond is the hot spot for astrophotograhy but have not personally been there at night, also thought Eagle Lake was beautiful - if you are going late Spring - early Fall and have a kayak, bring it!

Wildlife and drones don't mix. Drones have no place in national parks. I've seen owls and ospreys go nuts when drones are around. I even saw one fool try to film an eagles nest with a drone. It could have been a disaster judging from how the eagles were acting, but fortunately a ranger came along and escorted him out of the park.

I’m planning on spring... I know it’s usually rainy and foggy, but hopefully I’ll get a couple days with sun or at least a clear night...

Trying to plan a sunrise and sunset on the most scenic locations... so I don’t go shutter happy shoting everything... looking to plan a single shot/composition per sunrise and another per sunset...
that’s my goal anyways... trying to learn patience and see how light changes through the landscape

There are many areas in the popular parks where wildlife doesn’t venture due to high human traffic. A limited number of permits issued to use drones in high traffic areas during the off season wouldn’t hurt a thing and could be a new source of revenue for a vastly underfunded national parks system.

They could run it as a lottery or something and only issue a few dozen per year or something; much like the national wildlife refuges do for waterfowl hunting.

But an outright ban is insane; there are plenty of people who aren’t able to make the trip to these places that would love to see the perspectives a drone could offer.

OP; sorry for hijacking your thread. I’m done now.

not hijacking the thread at all... you're just stating your opinion, and you should be allowed to. me personally i never got into drones but i can see where footage can be of good use since it offers a different perspective... I can also see why people are against them.... there are people that abuse their privileges and those who don't.

Destin Btw are you planning on going this month (April), just curious as to how high the MIlky way will be rising and will look for compositions

I was going to be going this month but I opted to head for the Adirondacks instead; I wanna get some trial hikes in before a backpacking trip next month.

I’m saving Acadia for late summer or fall now.

I'll offer a small tip that worked in my favour the other day; early morning, quite cold and damp - i made some pictures at one location, got back in the car and relocated a couple of miles, picked up my cameras to start shooting, both the lenses had misted up. But i had put UV filters on both lenses; unscrewed the filters, immediately clear optics again for the shots.

Moisture is definitely a concern on the gear... I’m thinking of bringing maybe a air tight container with a couple bags of silica to prevent moisture/mold in the gear

Are you driving around? I have a power USB adaptor for the cigarette lighter socket, and USB charger for Canon/Nikon batteries, phone, tablet etc
I am ordering a usb charger so I can hook up to anything in the truck, yeah driving around seeking locations is mostly what I am planning on doing... I’m even thinking of an inverter but they are a bit pricey for a good one... I’m still searching on things.
