I bought a Canon 600 ex rt ll flash that I use a Better Beamer on. There is a little bit of play in the head when positioned to shoot straight ahead and it drops down slightly. The result is only the lower half of the image is flashed. My solution for now is a shim to hold the head in position. I wish the head would lock more solidly in position. I also don't find the reach (with freshly charged batteries) very impressive even with the Better Beamer.

Donde, i've never used a Beamer but if your shim is working, as long as it's not compressible it should be fine.
As to the power, it is what it is! Make sure you're on full power and make sure the zoom is at 200mm, the narrowest the 600 has. Set the zoom manually if you need to.
Talk to Beamer, maybe like a soft box you need to fill the Beamer with a wider scattered angle of light to push more light to the front lens of the box?
Good luck
