Playing in the sun

Last week I was taking shots of the kids at our church's vacation bible school and that took me outside to shoot the kids playing out doors. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon and I turned around and looked up and saw the sun right behind the steeple and took these shots.

like the first one... I'd crop it to move the composition off center though.
the second one doesn't have the same impact.

That first one is really cool, but too much dead space. Square crop for the win.

I agree with the square crop but I think it works on both images.

I will surely agree with cropping of the first image but on the second I thought the rising of the steeple showcased the height of the cross...or am I just too close to the project?

That's what is so wonderful about photography, either is right. It's what your vision of the scene should be. I see what you mean about the steeple, but is just fades into the black dead space (to me anyway). I think the square crops bring more focus to the cross.

Anyway you look at it, they are interesting photos.
