Please advise what i could do better

Went for a walk around a couple local Audubon sanctuaries over the weekend. Have a couple pictures for some critical review.

Very subjective PoV:

1, great… just a tad too dark
2, great… just a tad too dark and heal out a bit of the branch
3, good… but sometimes too busy, no way out!
4, great… just a tad too dark time for shadow recovery on the bird only
5, time for shadow recovery on the bird only and heal out a bit of the branch
6, time for shadow recovery on the head only

Very good first contributions, keep'm coming!

All good images on your first go, some editing needed to really make them better and use of the Healing brush on the twigs.

I agree with @Fujidave. You got good results for a first effort. Keep in mind that almost all images need a bit of "development" out of the camera. Are you shooting raw or jpg? You can do a lot more with a raw image than a jpg in post processing.

And keep practicing.

Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated.

All images were shot in Raw, started that after my class. I am technical minded so the art aspect will be my most difficult thing to learn. Lightroom and Photoshop for processing will be interesting for awhile.

For future reference General C&C is not a good way to get useful feedback on an image. You may get some but people will be lazy and just post opinions with no real meat. If you take time evaluate your own image and focus what it is you need help with it will get you better feedback.

Also try to limit each post to one image, two if they relate to the same problem or subject.

Please edit the original post to one/two images.

Try and fill out as much as you can below.

-Tech Specs
Make model of Camera/lens
Shutter speed, aperture, iso
Aperture priority/Shutter priority/Manual etc.

-Lighting
Strobes, speed lights and at what power.
Natural light time of day.

-Why did I take the shot?
Just playing around is not sufficient or people will just play around with the feedback. Was it a great sunset? Trying a new technique? There's always a reason to hit that shutter button.

- What was the goal?
What image did you have in mind when you took the image?
Was there a specific learning goal?

- Did I achieve my goal?
This is where you honestly look at your own image. Do you see anything that looks off, takes your attention away from the subject, etc.

- If I could, what would I change?
Everyone should be able to answer this one. There's always that one or two things that you could have done different/better.

-What critique am I looking for?
General critique will get you general feedback. Try and find what you think you need help with and lay it out for us to provide assistance. This will not limit the feedback you get but will ensure that you do get feedback on this topic.

@zombiesniper thank you for reminding the group that the C&C Gallery is not for generalized comments, nor a place to stoke egos, there are other threads better suited for that. A major step to improvement is learning to critically asses your own work, to understand what is good, what's bad, and what needs improvement. Otherwise, how can you differentiate between valid critique and opinions (which may or may not be valid).

Coooool improvements IYAM! I like to have the subject free
of anything too close — specially it head — but I do leave
some for the wild character of the vegetation. Well done!

For a beginner these are pretty good. I think in your edit you've changed the whte balance, and now the sky looks different in those two shots.
