imo, the original posted image is more pleasing to the eye.

regarding a focal point, i personally don't think it's all that important that landscapes have one. it's a landscape...you take in the beauty that's all around you. this image gave me lots to appreciate. thanks for the view.

There are just too many things that could be the focus, thats the problem, in my opinion. The mountains, trees, and cows could all be the focus, and it doesn't work when they all compete. Nice attempt, though.

I'm using PSCS, but it doesn't matter, a simple levels/ curves/ to get black/whites correct then replace tree colour slightly finally saturation and USM, these are all available from the dropdown menu's but I used adjustment layers before flattening as this leaves the original intact. Hope this helps.
