I'm going to shoot an air show next weekend, and I'm wondering if anyone of you have any suggestions about techniques etc.

I'll be using a 35-105mm lens for the static display and a 70-300mm lens for the actual show. (I might allso use a greater wide-angle to get a couple of nice panoramas...)

I'd really apprechiate all help and suggestions.

Planes in the air.

Go manual and expose for the shadows, not the sky. Get a setting on something on the ground that doesn't have a bright background, and has an average brightness.

Since they are moving you will want to pan and shoot at a minimum of 1/250. If you go high speed on prop planes it will stop the propellers. If you want some blur, don't go with 1/1000.

Unless they are very close you can manually focus at infinity.

Autofocus needs contrast to find the subject. A clear sky might confuse the AF.
