Please suggest a Canon Camera for a new photographer

The Canon owners will recommend Canon, and the Nikon owners will recommend Nikon.

Not all of us do! As a Nikon user, you'd be surprised how often I recommend Canon gear.

I actually think I may have talked a lady out of a Nikon D5300 with the new 300mm f/4 in favour of a Canon SL1 with a 300mm f/4 on another forum...

Though the question is asks which camera brand, that's probably the least important factor.

Higher on the priority list should be lenses & lighting. Combined with an appropriate amount of skill, the right lenses and lighting would actually make a difference.

With the right lenses and lighting, the brand of camera body won't matter.

true, the choice of lens has a larger impact on photos and can cost much more than the camera body
