If your useing a polarizing filter do you not need a lens hood? Basically my question is, if your using the polarizing filter then you don't need the hood because of the way its filtering the light. This question might sound silly but it's something I've never seen talked about.

Lens hoods are never a necessity but always recommended. Not only do they shield the lens from stray light that can cause flare and reduce contrast, but they protect the lens as well.

I would think that lens hoods are more beneficial when using a filter...because the more glass you stack in front of the lens...the more chance of getting lens flare.

The problem with a polarizing filter, is that you need to rotate the front of the filter, which can be a pain if you have a hood on.
