Post Processing?

Trying to figure out this whole "post processing" thing because it seems to be extremely important. Please let me know whatcha think.

maybe a tad bit too much contrast?

the shadows on her eyes, nose, and hand are really harsh. hard to tell though with out seeing the original if the post is contributing a lot to it or not. her face looks very charcoal like, i like it, but would like to see more definition in her eyes and less shadow
