I'm very new to PS5, and I was playing around with some digital images from 35mm film. I tried to improve the sharpening, but all that happened was it got grainy. Do you guys PP you scanned film images, or are they best left alone in regards to sharpness?

I sharpen a little, but I don't do much.

The graininess will depend on the film used, and the developer (if B&W). If you sharpen, the grain is going to be sharpened too.

Same here, I sharpen a little, but not much. Grain doesn't bother me as long as the image is exposed properly. If it's higher speed film, I expect some grain anyway.. In the past i've used some noise software to soften the grain some, but I don't really do it so much anymore.

I use neat image which you can reduce noise with and also sharpen at the same time.

It was 200 ASA Fuji, and I can only see grain at about 150%, but even the slightest use of USM shows grain.

The Unsharp Mask is the Gimp has an 'threshhold' setting to avoid sharpening the grain while acting on the other picture elements.
There must be an option like that in PS.
