the brickwork forms a cross hatching effect which is really bothering me...

This is a great job. It doesnt get any better than this. And I dont see any cross hatching effect.

As bynx says its about as good as it gets !!!!

The only cross-hatching I see is along the floor, by the ends of the pews. My guess is that it's caused by the lights above. Not sure anything can, or should, be done about it.

On the right-hand side, just above the pews by the walkway through the bricks, there appears to be something odd going on there. Is that just the bricks or did you do some cloning?

I dont know what these people are drinking or smoking but I dont see any of this stuff they are complaining about.
Can you tell me what the writing on the wall is. Its on both sides and only on certain bricks. I was just wondering if you paid any attention to that. I shot in a church very similar in structure to this one. Its perfect for HDR. Oh, another thing I like is that you have the whole thing in focus, from front to back. Great job.

No "complaints", Bynx, just observations and questions.

Do you really not see the "cross" pattern at the end of each pew? It's pretty prominent...

I see normal light patterns on the floor from those lights on the columns or perhaps from the windows higher up, but they are completely normal and not from any processing problem. If you have a problem with how light plays on things, take it up with Mother Nature. Has anyone looked at this image in its largest size? I think the play of light and shadow is exceptional in this image.

I never suggested that the patterns were a processing issue. In fact, I was clearly in stating that I thought they were the result of the lights above.

Nor did I say I had a problem with them...

Yeah, my wife didn't see it either. But I very much see an almost a fine grid effect, so pronounced that it almost looks like an overlay! But if no one else sees it, then it's not really a problem.

In what portion of the photo are you seeing it? On the walls, the floor, or the ceiling?

The grid look you see is from different shadows on shadows from different light sources and intensities. Thats why this HDR is so good because linkawhai has picked it all up nicely.

No matter if it's technically "good" I find it extremely distracting!

...but i don't think it's that because I see it everywhere, almost like a layover, until I look closely at one element. But if I look at the whole, it's there and it is very bothersome. I'm pretty sure it's an optical illusion from the brickwork, but clearly only a minority of people can see it, if not only myself.

But for me, it is extremely pronounced.

LOL! I know, weird, huh? For me it's like how can you NOT see it! When I posted I was really expecting everyone to agree. It's not subtle at all.
