problem with canon s5

hi
i have recently bought new canon s5 is. Earlier i was using KODAK point and shoot camera,before than that i was using a film camera

there are two problems i am facing

1.when i take pics in the night with flash on with my canon 5s , there are lots of white dots in the photo . i know these dots are dust particles and insects in the air . but this problem was rare while using my old cameras and i never used lens hood or seperate flash. why there are so many white dots in the photos taken from s5?please hlep

2. in canon s5 there two night mode, the other one is in special scene mode, whats the differece?
