Need some help here please, I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ30 There is no programme on the camera, as far as I can see, to use to get some good sunset photos Any ideas how to improve my either blown out images or totally black ones. Any help appreciated, thanks

Use manual mode. Use the light meter. Set the camera to about F8 and a speed that the camera thinks will expose the image correctly. Shoot one or two speeds either side of that.

It's digital, surely you can on the screen if your image is exposed correctly?

You can't have all the detail in the sunset & in a dark foreground at the same time though. They don't make camera's that do that. If the foreground close to you is interesting you can fire a burst of flash to create a different effect.
