Quality of JPEGs when using image for the web

drumroll... "Save for Web and Devices"

You're a genius, Garbz. I did not know about this option.

However...Everytime I open this, the default is to save as a GIF.

Is there a way to change the default settings?

(I'm assuming that JPEG is perferable over GIF...am I correct?)

Also, my PSE 7 does not give an sRGB checkbox. :grumpy:

Thanks,

Jon

Click that right arrow next to the Preset drop box. That's where Photoshop CS to CS3 hid the checkbox. CS4 has the checkbox at the bottom next to the resize dialogue.
Also I think that's where the "save settings" option is.

GIF is not suitable for photos. It's used mainly for low colour images with transparency used a lot on websites where a picture can be greatly compressed by knowing it has only i.e. 8 selectable colours. In any case it's functionality has been superseded by PNG.

Nope, not in PS7. And I've clicked on everything in sight and cannot find a 'save settings' option.

This sucks. Gotsta get me some CS4.

Just had a check on my sister's computer and sure enough there's no sRGB option, or save settings option.

The sRGB option missing makes sense though as Photoshop Elements doesn't support end to end colour management. You can only convert to sRGB, AdobeRGB, and can't open RAW files in anything other than sRGB. So it is entirely a non-issue unless you have your camera specifically set to AdobeRGB for some weird reason.
