Quantaray 28-80 f 3.5

I got this lens from a friend who found it at a house they bought. It mounts just fine and is MF only, no big deal. It's clear and I was thinking about trying it for a Milky Way shot.

The camera, in manual mode, won't allow me to set the aperture to 3.5, it only goes down to f4. Did I miss a setting somewhere? I tried setting up the lens manually, but it still only goes down to f4.

I’ve had an old prime do that when I get sloppy when mounting. Check that its set to the smallest aperture, usually f16 or 22 before mounting.

Something keeping it out of sync to the camera.

I'll be sure to clean the contacts. The lens is locked at f22. Anything else and I get an error on the f stop and, naturally, i cannot take a picture.
