So I was just thinking, my SB-600 automatically focuses the light based on focal length. If I set my lens to 50mm the flash sets itself to the same.

But with the 1.5x FL multi on DSLRs, I'd effectively be at 75mm...does this make a difference with the flash?

Thanks,

I know that the latest Canon flashes (430 & 580) will recognize when they are on a cropped sensor camera...and adjust the flash zoom accordingly. I'm not sure about Nikon.

If it does not...the only thing that will happen...is that your flash will cover more area than your lens can see...so it won't affect the photos at all. The down side is that the flash will be wasting a little bit of power (since it's illuminating some areas that it does not need to)...does that make a practical different? Probably not.

Good to know. And yeah, I'm not worried about power. My 2000 mAh batts have went through 200+ shots in very dark clubs where the flash is punching almost as hard as it can.

Don't worry about it.
