I have a few questions about the wedding invitation design business I’m working on. I’m currently just brainstorming a few ideas to do freelance work on the side, and wanted to know how would a client like you to be benefited from my service.

1. Have you ever paid for graphic design service like this?
2. What’s your typical budget for these types of project?
3. Do you prefer hourly rate?
4. Or, fixed price per project?
5. How high of a priority is this to you?
6. What factors are the most/least important to you when deciding whom to hire?
7. What has been your biggest frustration with service provide in the past?

Your inputs are greatly appreciated!

No & nothing.

I don't know how much business you'd get directly from photographers. I think you'd have better luck marketing directly to brides or maybe wedding designers/planners. Either way, you'll have to target the high end of the market because I'd think that this is something that most brides/planners would take on themselves.

In other words, I'd hope that as a graphic designer, you'd have a wider range than just wedding invitations...but then again, you're in California where the higher end of the market is a lot bigger than just about anywhere else.

Artists that specialize in invitations and such usually charge a flat fee for a set number of invitations. You will need a supplier for high-end papers, envelopes, a hand-lettering specialist, a source for handmade papers, gold leaf etc.. You are in tough competition as the larger companies not only offer stock invitations but also custom services at no extra cost. You will have to solicite wedding planners mostly. Those wanting to spend money on custom invitations have the money for the wedding planner who will be hiring you.
