There are plenty of posts and opinions galore on tripods (here and elsewhere) but, what about quick releases? I'm not asking about tripod heads, either, just the quick release. Does anyone have any experience to share about them? Types, brands, models you love or despise.

Also, please keep info to stand alone QR's and not heads with the release built into them.

I use them all the time and like them alot.

Ok, now that I have that out of my system. Your question is a bit to simple. Quick releases for what purpose, Camera type and lenses? It does matter.

For me 35mm/DSLR I prefer Bogen RC2. Small, strong, fast and you can pick up a plate almost anywhere for about $12.00.

For medium format the Bogen RC0 or Acra Swiss. Larger, stronger and designed for bigger camera bodies.

I will be using a Slik SBH-320 Ball Head for mounting a Konica/Minolta Maxxum 7D. My largest lens is a Sigma 400mm f5.6 and I sometimes (rarely) use a 2x teleconverter with it. I'm always on the look-out for a faster/longer lens, however.

As long as you are using a lens ring mount the RC2 should work just fine. Just get an extra plate for the bottom of the lens ring mount. I use the RC2 for camera mount and lens mount on my tripod and monopod. Works fine.
