Remote for D80?

Ok im at the point where i want to do long exposure night shots etc... so need a tripod and a remote.

the tripod is easy enough....

but remotes!! there is so many, some with a wire, infra red etc.. also some have 1 button, some look like a TV remote

but i need the opinion of someone that uses one... what features will i need the most? obviously i need one that locks the shutter open for bulb shots... anything else?

i was looking on ebay, there are many different ones to choose from, and they are cheap too

for long exposure get a cable release!

is there a shutter open lock on that? or is it just a press and release type

If I want to set to shutter lock I set the camera to bulb and then press the remote once to open the shutter and once to close it. I can also set the camera to timer so when I hit the button on the remote the timer starts counting down.
