Replacing my kit lens???

Hey guys, I'm looking to replace my kit lens for my canon rebel t3(I'm new to all of this) and I was just looking for some suggestions for a new 18-55mm lens. I'd mainly use it for portraits and some close up shots with a macro attachments or if there are lens with that focal length that have it built in or whatever.

The kit lens is basically the main "18-55" lens... If all you want is a different 18-55 lens, it will just be a "better" kit lens - like, the same lens but with IS, for example.

Have you ever used a prime lens before?

I've never used a prime lens before, but my budget is like 550 maybe 600

Is the kit lens the only lens you have right now?

There are a number of lenses that would come in under budget.
