Hi TPF,
I've been "lurking" for a month-or-so now and thought it was time that I registered and started participating in the community that I've benefited from watching.
I got my first taste of photography back in 2000 with a Sony Cybershot "bridge" camera... a whopping 3.1 Mega-pixels and a 4MB memory card. Though completely ignorant of exposure triangles, composition, etc. I found myself drawn to interesting patterns and unique perspectives found in everyday life. As it would happen, after a few years my interest faded as life took me in other directions.
I'm am now a husband and father of two young boys with a career in Computer Science. My wife is successfully self-employed as a graphic designer and I occasionally get a chance to help her with the "tech" side of her business. As a side-note: I also play more than my fair share of video games(mostly on the PC).
Recently, my interest in photography has been re-kindled and I have decided to dive back in, pursue photography as a hobby and reinvigorate my creative intuitions. We purchased a Nikon D5100 and a small sampling of lenses to jump-start the process and I'm really enjoying myself (Flashes, filters, etc. are on the Christmas wish list).
I've got a long, long way to go, but I've really enjoyed (most of) the perspectives that this community has to offer - especially the "C&C" that is offered. I've found myself examining my images with a more critical eye. More importantly, I find myself taking deliberate time to make interesting photographs instead of "taking snapshots" of whatever happens to be in front of my lens.
Thanks for the community you've grown here - I look forward to getting involved.
