This was my first attempt at shooting action shots at night. I had to shoot most shots at either ISO 2400 or 3200. Was shooting a 24-70 2.8. Got some feedback on another forum but it always came down to needing a longer lens and longer than I could afford. I do have the 70-200 w/1.7 converter now and when the season reopens around here will take that advice...but for closer in images like these, what can I do better?

Indoor/night-time rodeo is REALLY tough, even with long, fast primes and pro bodies. The BEST thing you can do is get yourself a better shooting position. I've found for relatively small rings (100x200') that a 70-200 is a good lens, but you have to get a good position. Do you have/can you get press credentials?

I think I can get them. I've shot enough stuff for the newspaper that they owe me. Agree that would be the best access.

These were outdoor at a fairgrounds.
