rotating image....how does it know?!

Quick question - how on earth does PS know to rotate my photos when I pull them in off the camera?! eg: a portrait photo taken in landscape.... it rotates it the right way!!

......scary!
 
It's not photoshop doing it. It's your camera putting a bit of extra data in saying - this photos is portait, this photo is landscape. Then all PS does, is read the data and TA DA it's the right way up. Great invention isn't it!
 
I noticed the Canon drebel rotats the images when you take a portrait, but for some stupipd reason it shows it rotated on the lcd while the camera is still sideways so its sideways after you take it. I think theres a gyrothing inside it to tell it its sideways.

But there is alaso software around that analyzes pictures, so that could be part of it to. Some scanners are tryiing to stop people from scanning porn, but it cant tell the difference when its a picture of 2 sumo wrestlers. Probably to much info. :0) Theres some weird news stories online.
