Hey all! I'm a beginner photographer from Texas. I'm really new to photography and joined the website to learn about it!

I currently have a compact digital camera (Fujifilm Finepix S2000D), but I'm looking to invest in my first DSLR. Any suggestions?

Hey Aaron!

I'm also new to the forums, welcome. I'm pretty much in the same place you are. I think it would help the rest of the community suggest starter cameras for you if you specified what you plan on photographing (portraits, landscapes, etc) and what is most important to you (size, weight, systems, etc). Let me know how your search goes!

I'm a noob myself, but after a bit of pre-Christmas research, I've found the Nikon D3100 and D3000 to be great choices for starter DSLRs. I own a D3100 and have used a D3000 before, and they are both very easy to use. Canon Rebels are also a good entry-level DSLR.

Same here! I'm hoping to get a D3100 soon, but I'm also looking at the Canons.

Welcome to the forum.

What part of Texas are you in? I live in Greenville.
There don't seem to be many people from N. Texas on here... A few in the DFW area, but pretty much everyone else seems to be in Houston or Austin. :lol:

(I know some people are not comfortable saying what city they live in ... so if you don't want to say, I understand. I never saw the harm in it though, personally. Texas is a big place, lol.)

Haha I live in Dallas! So we're not too far..
