'Connected' is the latest of Samaritans' annual image competitions which in recent years have supported campaigns and events the charity has launched. In the year that Samaritans celebrates fifty years of listening, 'Connected' challenges you to consider how, in today's society, we communicate our feelings.

The Challenge

Photographers and digital image artists are invited to capture, or create, images that visualise a moment of human connection.

Can you realise the importance, power and consequences of such communication?

Sucessful images will be those which portray positive human interaction through communication, images which show the methods people use to communicate and the beneficial results of doing so. Can you produce an image which not only explains how, but also suggests why, we should express our feelings by communicating?

Inspiration?

Consider how we communicate; the whole spectrum of languages and systems that people use. From a simple glance or smile, through to the written or spoken word, signs and signals, advanced modern technologies. How have these methods evolved? how do they vary in scale? who do they benefit? how do they impact on our daily lives? how do we react to them?

You hold the copyright but allow them to publish images to promote the contest and future ones and the company Samaritans.
