I'm a newby to the forum and to photography. Is it possible to create blurred backgrounds/sharp focus on specific focal point/person/item (I think this is called bokeh) with a digital point & shoot type camera? If so, how? Do you have to the position the camera a certain way & use macro? I'm looking at a Samsung SL720 and wondering if that could do the trick as I progress or if I need to move into something with swappable lenses, etc.

I'm completely clueless on this subject :lmao: & greatly appreciate your help.

If the camera has a macro setting you should be able to. I believe it's in the aperture.

Point n Shoot cameras have very tiny sensors and thus very deep DOF. So you will need to get some closeup macro shots or telephoto shots to show selective focus.

thanks for the responses! I've played with the macro settings, etc., tried positioning the zoom and my position closer to the objects, with more distance in the background, but I can't figure out a way to make this happen. can you give me any tips on which macro it would be, etc.? any tips would be appreciated.
