Hi Guys,

I'm new to photography, I have Nikon d7000 and sb700 flash unit. I want to use both in a indoor party. My lense is nikkor 70-200mm vr II.
My question is what other setting do I need?

An open window to shoot from outside in the yard.
Unless you want a lot of head shots.

You say you are new to photography, but how new? I've been doing it for about 4 years and still consider myself new. If you are not too familiar with using the SB700 then I suggest using TTYL and tilt the flash to bounce off the ceiling. Also, if you are shooting the blowing out of candles on a cake, definitely use the incandescent gel. It will help keep the glow from the candles without the cameras white balance turning it to white light.

new to photography with a D7000 and a 70-200 VR11 lens? That's like saying, I've just learned to swim, Is it too late for me to sign up for this thing in London?

70mm is too much to be trying to use indoors for anything larger than a puppy. You have a 5' minimum focus distance and a field of view that is far too narrow. You need a much wider-angle lens for indoor photography.
