I tried to post a picture and this is all I got. What am I doing wrong?

You need to find an online host to be able to upload your pics to, and then use the image tags to show them. Places like photobucket.com are popular and free. We also offer subscriptions which give you access to your own gallery here on the forum where you can directly upload your photos.
