Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Random question. Is it possible to sell your photography career? Rights to all my photos . . . a couple hundred rolls of negatives ( about every 90's rock band), local raleigh, nc bands also. And many artistic shoots. (digital) Check out my portfolio at iseerockstars portfolio Also have many pics at my facebook . . . https://www.facebook.com/iseerockstars/photos_stream

My thought is , someone could use my work for content, sell prints, whatever !

Just curious.

You can try to sell whatever you want. Finding a buyer is a whole other ball game. I don't foresee a big demand for what you are selling though. Its not like you shot Jimmy Hendrix or something.

I would suggest you do a bit of research before choosing your best course of action. If you were selling here in the UK I would suggest you approach one of the auction houses that specialise in art work and photography sales and see if they perceive any possible interest - I am not sure the best place to look for them in other countries - maybe the local city for local bands or New York or something if you have any big stuff? Try and locate the sources that rock memorabilia fans use when they buy material for their personal collections and offer your material either to the source or via the source as they will have lists of collectors or perhaps web sites to advertise material on. If you are just wanting to see the images used etc, photo printers like Blurb will let you create photobooks that random people can buy off of the blurb site Amazon is supportive of self publishing where items are printed as they are ordered by customers, though photo quality is unlikely to be as good as going via somewhere like Blurb. Getting publicity is your main problem for book sales and indeed for private sales of your back catalogue. It may be more useful to split your back catalogue and sell individual items to collectors. You could also try getting a piece on a photography news site about your catalogue if it holds anything of particular intererest - an example of such a site is PetaPixel - Photography and Camera News, Reviews, and Inspiration You could also try to find a gallery that might sell your work if its good enough and you could combine an exhibition with a back catalogue sell off or a book or whatever. Put the best of your work into a scanner and lodge the results with a specialist stock library that deals with music images. Hope some of these ideas might help.

There would be a very narrow market for those items but it may be worth your while to put a package together with some sample prints of the biggest names and some words about the names of the groups, quantity and quality and try an ad in some of the trade press, like Variety or whatever is the big one these days.

are u a photographer? i saw ur pics, meh

Wow, so you come to a forum and ask for advice and when someone is kind enough and takes the time to reply you criticize their work without being asked?

Wow, that's pretty much beneath contempt really.

You are correct, Jimmy is dead. However, his personal photographer just sold off a good portion of his unreleased photographs for around $15,000. So if previously unreleased photos of Jimmy Hendrix go for $15k, what do you think your photos of bands who are only famous in a small region of the US should sell for? Who do you think your target market for that type of product is? When every Tom, Dick and Harry at a concert has some sort of camera, what do you think the supply is vs the demand?

Also, insulting my photography doesn't get you anywhere. I don't need your approval to validate my work.

I told you the truth, there isn't likely a huge market for what you want to sell. Yes I'm a photographer, with a background in marketing. I have a good idea of what people will buy and what they will spend on it.

Good luck to you.

Let's be very clear about something: While it's perfectly acceptable to dislike someone else's work, it is NOT acceptable to be disparaging of it. Any further remarks of this nature will earn you an opportunity to post your queries on another photography forum.

I don't imagine being able to sell your business... though you may be able to sell your pictures. The only photography businesses I know that can be sold are the ones that are large and established and do not hinge entirely on the quality and talent of the sole proprietor.

As far as someone using those as part of their portfolio? Well... uh... at best, that's pretty dishonest.
