Photos NOT OK to edit
Hello to everyone! I have two bridge cameras with a thirteen years gap. The Sony DSC-R1 (2005) and the Nikon Coolpix P1000 (2018). Both are equipped with C-mos sensors. APS-C size the first one, half inch the other. Nevertheless if you read reviews around the internet they write that the R1 can shoot adequate photos till ISO800 while P1000 till ISO1600! How is this possible? Shouldn't - on theory - the bigger sensor gather more light and be more capable than the smaller? What am I missing here?

13 years between the two cameras, that's the difference. It's a significant amount of time for sensor technology to improve. Back in 2005 noise could be an issue, in 2018 you've got sensors that are ISO invariant.
