Series (11 photos) Baton Rouge Art District - My Outing Today

Today was my first real outing with my new camera. I set this day up specifically to go out and find some great things to capture. We started at the Museaum/Planetatrium in Downtown Baton Rouge and then I ventured outside of it to the History of Louisiana Museum and USS KIDD.
Some of these, I am actually very proud of, some not so, but wanted to share them anyway.

1. This was taken outside of the History of Louisiana Museaum and USS KIDD.

2. Sitting along the levee of the Mississippi River.

3. My son inside the Planetarium - reminded me of Y.M.C.A. on drugs LOL

4. The River Center (which recently housed thousands of New Orleans refugees) which sits accross the street from where I was photographing. (Anyone want to go see Motley Crew? LOLOLOL!) I messed up the photo I took of the sign saying "Larry The Cable Guy" getting tickets to that one!! HAHAH!!

5. Rooftop of the Art School accross the street.

6. One of my favorites - this was a monument at the History of Louisiana Museaum.

7. Lamp Posts I thought were very photogenic. hehehe

8. Another of my faves. Some dude holding a thingy in his hand. (See how cultured I am??)

9. A bronze sculpture inside the Art Museaum/Planetarium

10. I think this is a bird.

11. A statue of some dude holding an apple in the Planetarium. (No flash photography aloud and it was pretty dark in there, so this was the best I could do.)

love 1 and 2, great angle on number six, i love the DOF the angle creates! ive have alot of trouble trying to shoot flags, of course ive usually tried at night and my shutter speed it too slow, maybe ill have to do some more day shoots!

Wow JM, your story was quite moving! That is so neat too that we both captured that and in black and white nonetheless. There were tons of monuments there and I did not want to over do it on them, so this was the one I chose to photograph.

thanks guys! I really didnt think they were that good, but I have been really hard on myself since I started using this camera and Photoshop, etc. I am my worst critic!! But everyone's positive feedback has really boosted my (photography esteem? LOL). But I dont mind critique, for it only helps me improve.

I'm tired, so I'll keep it short and sweet.

1. would be a lot better without the blue/purple colorcast. needs a white balance adjustment.

2. I really like this one! compo is great. The sky could be darker, but that'd take some higher level Photoshopping. If you want to try it, I'll let you know what to do

3. weird...in a good way

4. Technically very good (exposure, etc) but there is nothing in there that really catches my eye and holds it.

5. Picture is great. Sky is good, compo is good, but it suffers from the same compression issues that plagued the crosses yesterday.

6. Very nice conversion. I'd like the thingy to be a little further right, though. Other than that, very nice work

7. My fav of the set. The only thing i see is the bottom of the right light is cut off a little. Nice

8. The background is too busy to be truly effective. What would've made this really pop is if you went to the darkest side, and got the sky to go all blown out, so it would be white on white.

9. You needed a flash for this...too many shadows.

10. Once again, I wish it were less centered, but very nice DOF.

11. Good coloration, maybe show a bit more of the arm, though?

Overall, your camera skills are quite good, so you have the foundation. Now you just need to develop a personal style and sense of composition. That can take a while, so don't be discouraged. Keep looking at great photos, and you'll get better right away.

Sorry if this seems too negative, when I say something, assume everything else is good, because it is. Keep shooting!

3 and the last are my favorites, Something about the slight blur and composition of the last that really appeals to me. Good series keep them coming

2,6,and 7 are my favs. I think the sky in number two could be more colorful but that is all. Good job!
