settings for nikon coolpix8700&nikon sb80dx speedlight

Hi there,
I have recently bought a 8700 + sb80dx . I want to take photos using flash and instead of the flash being connected to the camera I want to use infra red to shoot the sb80dx and switch off the internal flash on the camera.can anyone please help with what settings I need. I am new to photography.
