A friend of mine who is a photographer has asked me to shoot with her at a wedding in September. I'm VERY new at this, so she's training me and plans on using me exclusively next year for wedding season.

Anyone have any tips or resources to offer so I can prepare for this wedding? The more I can prepare and brush up and learn before the big day, the better.

Thanks in advance!

I would ask your photographer friend. Undoubtedly she has her own style, and methods of working, and I'm sure you can benefit a lot from asking her questions.

If there was anything to brush up on, I'd say it was flash photography (using a speedlight as fill flash, mixed with ambient lighting) The majority of what you are doing will probably be shooting candids at the reception.

I agree with Matt, and you are very lucky to have someone teaching you everything hehe, most people don't have that, so take advantage of it, ask her all the questions you need. All I would've said was to get the flash photography right, and practice lots with exposure, learn how to change it to suit the moment quickly, as to not over or under-expose the shot.

Agree too with Matt. She will have her own very definate set of rules, and style.
Have fun and I look forward to seeing your work. You will do fine.

You will do fine:-) It is your first wedding--it's a given you'll make mistakes. I bet she made a ton of mistakes her first wedding. As a matter of fact--I'll bet almost every picture was grainy and so dark you couldn't make out faces.

Just take it slow and think it thru when you can. And ask lots of questions. And wear comfortable shoes:wink: And join her for cake.
