Should I upgrade my D3100 to D7200/D9200 or get Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 VC?

Lens vs body is a balancing thing and they complement each other. An upgraded body will give you better low light, more frames per second, more resolution with all your current lenses but, digital camera bodies like computers, go obsolete in a few years. My D7000 is only 2 years old and we are now speculating on its' replacements (d7100) replacement (d7200 or d9300). Lenses on the other hand, have a longer lasting value as they don't go obsolete near as fast. I still use the af 50mm f1.8 that I bought nearly 20 years ago for my now retired Nikon n80 35mm film body.

Make a list of things your body and lenses isn't able to do. The one with the most negative points will be upgraded.
