Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD (OMG IRL GR8 VBG)

You can pick up a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR1 for ~$1200 used in excellent condition.

Coincidentally, you can by both a Sigma and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 for ~$1200, new, in excellent condition as well.

I generally do not like buying anything used, but sometimes its the logical way. Hows that Tamron 70-200 to hand hold?

Not sure about the Tamron, but the 70-200 mm Sigma with OS works fantastic handheld. In fact everything I've shot with it thus far has been handheld.

with and without VC, handheld.

I bought this lens not to long ago as a replacement of my kit lens. I can honestly say it was the 2nd best decision I made for camera gear, 1st being my upgrade to the 7100. My smoke pictures are the most recent pictures I took with my Sigma if you care to check them out.
