Hi guys. I just upgraded from a D40 to a D90. I purchased the body only, and gave my D40 w/18-55mm to my gf. Currently the only other lenses i own are the 35mm f1.8 and 55-200mm VR. I'm looking for another wide to mid range telephoto for my D90. I've been looking at the Sigma high speed lenses. Including the 18-50mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8, and the 28-70mm f2.8. I was wondering if any of you guys have experience with these lenses, in terms of build quality, image quality etc. I also plan to get the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 as well. Any suggestions guys? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

cheers!

24mm isn't really wide on your camera...so I'd favor the 18-50mm.

yeah thats what I was thinking. But I think I could make due without being able to get that wide. What im concerned about is if I get the 18-50mm. and the 70-200mm, the missing range in between might become a problem.

You will never notice the difference between 50-70mm being gone. It is seriously about one step in either direction to make up the difference.

I love my 18-50 - and I really would miss a wide end

I say go with the 18-50. As you already have the 55-200 to cover the longer range. I have the 24-70 f/2.8 Sigma in Canon flavor and like the lens. But since you already have the 55-200. I would go for the wider 18mm end. No sence in having double coverage of a range (though you would pick up a stop or two). I think the better choice is the 18-50 for your situation.

the 24-70 and 28-70 are designed as a standard zoom for FX. (DG)
the 18-50 is designed as standard zoom for DX. (DC) the 18-50 is equivalent to 27-75mm which is considered standard zoom range.

with that being said, if you want a wide to mid (standard zoom range) the 18-50 is for you.

also, if you're going to get the 18-50 from Sigma make sure you get the 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro

Thanks for all your info guys! All you guys make a good point. I talked to my friend about it too and he also said 50-70 range is pretty much just a step forward or back. LOL. so the 18-50mm f2.8 macro is it! Thanks again! =]
