Skull montage/manipulation

I created this image some time ago for another project, that failed to come to fruition, so thought I'd give it an airing here. I was going to post it in the creative corner as it looks more like graphic design work than a photo, but due to the subject matter, and the fact that it is made up of a series of photos and images, reckoned this might be a better forum.

The photos used are of a skull, a fire and cigarette smoke set over a black background using various blend modes. The result of this was pleasing, but did not have the depth or slightly unsettling quality that I was looking for. In order to try and achieve this I overlaid the photos with a woodcut and a medieval incantation. This seemed to do the trick, and I liked the way that the final image yielded more detail the longer you looked at it. See how many screaming faces you can see?
