You know your boss better than any of us. What will life be like if you absolutely bomb the shots? (Hey, life happens.) Will they really be fine with it? Or will you be entering a twilight zone of hell at the gym? If you are at all concerned about it's potential impact on work, then explain that to them respectfully. You enjoy your job, your relationship there, you don't want to ruin it, don't want it to bubble over and affect clients, etc, etc, etc.
