i believe they're also called 'Chinese lanterns' and they go a really nice orange when they're ripe and then the leaf matter rots away leaving an amazing skeleton (which is VERY cool to photo )

I've something like that in the gared... yes they are orange... but here actually they were orange already The summer ends I've no idea how it is called.
