I've come across the odd photographer who thinks that any manipulation or alteration, including contrast or color enhancement is against the principles of good photography.

Are arbitrary views like this even worth discussing? I don't think so -- not unless they come
with some interesting reasons to support them. For example, what "principle" are these
people referring to?

One could reply that altering and manipulating images is entirely compatible with the principles of good
photography. But where does that leave us if nobody articulates and defends those principles?
